From South Korean master of horror Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan), professor Se-jeong (Jun) is thrust into a bloody nightmare when a rapidly mutating virus is released during a biotech conference causing authorities to seal the facility. Trapped inside with no escape, Se-jeong along with a small group of survivors must fight to stay alive while the infected undergo horrific transformations.
“The term ‘zombie’ has become a big tent for any human menace, dead or not, whose brain has become rage-fueled goop. Where George A. Romero became increasingly fascinated by the remnants of their humanity, and the 28 Days Later franchise has become increasingly focused on their emotional well-being, Colony is more cerebral. Quite literally.” - Richard Whittaker, Austin Chronicle
“[The film] makes many of the action and gore scenes resemble something you might see on stage at Sadler’s Wells. Michael Jackson’s Thriller video might have done it first but Colony does it better, more scarily and on an epic scale.” - Laurence Phelan, The Guardian
“Working with the cinematographer Byun Bong-sung, Yeon’s anime background looms large in the precision of high-octane sequences and the frame-friendly hive-mind choreography of bodies in motion. That ceaseless kinetic quality makes for a hugely entertaining addition to Yeon’s increasingly distinctive horror universe.” - Tara Brady, The Irish Times
